Kos Island Greece

The island of Kos is just about the only Greek island which is can rival the popularity of Rhodes. The island’s capital is also named Kos, and it is located in the north-eastern part of the land mass. Even though it is a modern city, there are many valuable and well preserved ruins which can be visited there. One of them would be the castle built by the knights of St. John’s Order, which dominates the harbour. Even though it is not a large city, Kos attracts tourists through local traditions (which can be savoured mainly in restaurants), the beauty of the landscape and the rich historical heritage.
When you get tired of visiting ruins and buildings, you should steer away from the city. The renowned Asklepieion is just 45 minutes away. That will also give you an opportunity to visit the villages of Tigaki and Mastihari. There are a couple of other castles which you can visit, one located in Pyli and one in Antimachia. In Zipari you can see the beautiful Ayios Pavlos basilica while Asfendiou is a charming little mountain village.
The island of Kos is the ideal destination for a cultural vacation, mountain climbing or natural and religious therapies. Kos is obviously more visited during the summer, but there are many hotels which operate year round, as a few visitors would rather avoid the tourist rush. Seaside resorts, bars, clubs as well as some of the best beaches in the world will be at your disposal to fulfil all your fantasies. The towns of Kos, Lambi and Kardamena are waiting for you with open arms. But you should also save some time to visit the inner island, where you can find isolated cabins, peaceful villages and sheltered beaches.
