Can I Take My Rental Car from Kos to Another Island by Ferry?

A common question we receive is whether you can take your rental car from Kos to another island by ferry. The simple answer is YES!

*Please note: Only the suppliers listed below currently allow rental cars on ferries for Summer 2024.

Authorization is required at time of pick up! Please Speak Directly to Alamo at time of pick up of your vehicle.

Ferry travel is allowed. In case the customers wish to use the ferry, this is only allowed upon request directly at the local rental station upon direct approval from the local agent, (not allowed without the written consent of the rental company).

Customers must state all the island(s) that they intend to visit for this matter.

In case the local rental station agrees upon allowing the vehicle(s) to be transported to specific island(s), the customer has to purchase an additional “ferry risk – fee”, at the cost of EUR 70. 

Vehicles can be taken, by ferry, to ALL other parts of Greece only after coordination with the local station. An additional insurance which covers ferry travel is available upon collection of the car with an extra charge of EUR 74.40 per rental.

Taking rental vehicles on ferries is allowed. However, all protections and coverage products lose validity for the duration of ferry trips. Fees apply; please ask the Supplier for details when you pick up the vehicle.

Crossing between different islands and also between islands and the mainland is only allowed if you receive special permission from the Supplier. You must also purchase special coverage. Please ask the Supplier for details when picking up the rental vehicle.

You may not take the rental vehicle on any type of boat, ship, ferry.

It is only allowed if you attain prior written permission from the Supplier. There is a fee of €31 per direction. There is a fee of €155 per rental

Ferry Insurance from one rental office to another rental office is available for an additional charge of EUR 62 (incl. VAT). This insurance is available at the rental desk at time of pick up.

You may not take the rental vehicle on any type of boat, ship, ferry. It is only allowed if you attain prior written permission from the Supplier. There is a fee of €40.75–43.44 per direction.

Ferries between Greek islands are allowed. If the customer takes the car on a Ferry, the purchase of Island/Ferryboat Travel Fee is mandatory at the rental desk which is available for an additional charge of EUR 30.

In case the customer fails to purchase this product and this results in a damage to the car on a Ferry, all protections are invalid and the customer will be held liable for the damages. Ferry tickets are not covered by this fee.

Please leave a note in booking that you will be traveling by ferry.

Please Note: Ferrying the rented vehicles is not allowed. No insurance covers the vehicle in such cases.
